The Inria+alumni network is taking a new step in its deployment with the possible establishment of thematic groups led by and for its members. This initiative aims to respond to needs expressed by some of you: to structure targeted, more collaborative and useful exchange spaces for the community.
Why create thematic groups?
Today, the network brings together varied profiles, rich backgrounds and multiple expertise. In the groups already in place, these profiles can be grouped by Center, by country, or on the theme of entrepreneurship. Another way of connecting is possible: the thematic groups will be designed to meet a simple need, that of creating spaces where members can interact around a topic of common interest. Concretely, it will be about:
- share knowledge, feedback and good practices;
- to bring out collective projects;
- develop opportunities...
- but also, strengthen the sense of belonging to the community;
- and, ultimately, increase the impact of our community.
A group has value only if it responds to a concrete and shared interest. Without that, it does not live.
A clear framework to ensure efficiency
To avoid isolated or short-term initiatives, we propose that the creation of groups be based on a structured framework, framed by a charter (link here). In addition, the creation of each group will be based on key steps:
A formalized application
The creation of a group involves an application form (link here), which allows for clarification from the start:
- the theme,
- the objectives,
- the potentially concerned audiences,
- the necessary means,
- and the first actions envisaged.
This step is essential: it requires setting a clear intention and demonstrating the usefulness of the group and its contribution to the community.
A validation by the Board of Directors of the Inria Alumni association
The Board of Directors approves the creation of the group. This ensures consistency with the network’s guidelines and avoids dispersion.
A co-constructed manifesto
Once the group is launched, depending on its size and purpose, its members will be able to collectively draft a manifesto, a document that will specify the detailed objectives, the action plan, and specific operating rules in addition to the charter, if necessary.
A functioning based on commitment
A group does not work alone. It relies on the real involvement of its members. Some structuring principles:
- two volunteer facilitators lead the group;
- a regular animation is expected (exchanges, events, contents);
- the members commit to contribute in a constructive manner;
- the exchanges take place in a professional, respectful and non-commercial setting;
- regular monitoring is ensured with the Inria+alumni team.
Without animation or participation, a group quickly runs out of steam. It is a point of assumed vigilance.
What the members will have to gain from itThe objective is not to create additional spaces, but useful ones. A group must allow its members notably to: |
Call for proposals
This initiative is therefore open. It depends directly on you.
Have you identified a relevant theme, an unmet need, a community ready to get involved?
We invite you to propose the creation of a group. Here are some examples of possible themes: scientific or technological fields, cross-cutting issues (digital and environment, digital and artistic creation, digital and education, etc.), professions or professional paths...
Only one condition: that there is a real interest and people ready to commit.
Next step
The first applications can be submitted now. They will be examined by the Board of Directors.
Send them to contact[at]inria-alumni.fr.
